New Zealand Post provides employment for about 17,000 people across New Zealand. Finding the best people for our organisation is very important to us. Our employees are considered and treated as our greatest resource so we invest in our employees. To show our commitment, we've developed a comprehensive employee benefits package to help balance work and personal responsibilities.
When you want to develop your skills...
We're so passionate about providing people with the skills and 'stretch' to do their job, we've invested in our own training programmes. Current programmes include Leaders as Communicators, Leaders as Coaches, Performance Management Practices, Influencing, Relationship Management, and Frontline Leadership. We also support external training initiatives that offer opportunities to grow our peoples' skills - and therefore our business. We have also invested in Lominger - a highly respected competency tool set which will help you drive your career and build your skills while you work.
When you want to learn more...
Our Study Assistance Programme provides help with study fees and leave for people who want to work towards their first tertiary qualification. It's our way of helping our people develop the skills, knowledge and potential for the jobs we may offer in the future.
Your safety and wellbeing...
Employee Wellbeing is about our most valuable resource: you. You make the difference, and we take our responsibility to you seriously. We're committed to providing a healthy and safe workplace and offer a range of employee wellbeing programmes that aim to broaden people's skills, improve their awareness, and encourage their involvement in all that we do.
Our focus is to keep employees safe, both in the workplace and at home.
As an example we have recently introduced a Workplace Safety Engagement system. This reminds our front line staff to check their work areas and allows them to record any unsafe practices or items, so they can be fixed.
We're also an ACC Accredited Employer which means we directly manage the rehabilitation and claims management of injured employees at work. All parts of our business are expected to conform to ACC standards in safety management, claims management and rehabilitation management.
Of course there's more to employee wellbeing than just being safer at work and at home. Wellbeing is about staying healthy, having opportunities to relax with friends and family and having someone to lend a helping hand when you need it. EAP Services are available to all employees for work and home related personal issues.
When you need help with healthcare...
In some jobs we provide varying levels of subsidised health care and, through our affiliation with the Post Office Welfare Trust our employees can take advantage of reduced rate private medical insurance. Trustaide is part of this Welfare Trust and provides inexpensive help with healthcare expenses like visits to the doctor, glasses and permanent contact lenses, medical prescriptions, specialist consultations, and hospital expenses. You can access this by joining the Post Office Welfare Trust. We also offer you access to our discounted group rates for Southern Cross Healthcare. In addition, our safety and wellbeing team run a number of programmes around employee wellbeing to help you manage your health.
When you need flexibility in your work...
It's important to us that our employees don't spend all of their time at work. So, we're flexible in how we get the work done. We have a large number of part time staff which gives options for those who need to care for young children or the elderly. We have flexible hours for a number of jobs which lets people miss the traffic peaks.
We're very proud of our staff who represent New Zealand at international competitions, the Commonwealth Games and the Olympics and provide the flexibility they need to keep good jobs and get the time they need to be their best in their chosen sport.
When you need help managing life's events...
Situations in your personal life can sometimes affect your ability to do your work, and you may need someone independent to talk to, outside family, friends and workmates. So, we provide fully funded access to an Employee Assistance Program to help employees dealing with personal problems or with issues at work. The service is anonymous and available to all staff.
When you want to plan for your future...
We offer a very competitive pension plan to show that we're in it for the long haul and we want to help you secure your lifestyle in retirement.
When you want your success recognised...
Our incentive plans recognise your contribution to successful business performance. We want a high-performance culture. We want to celebrate success. And we want to demonstrate to you that your performance matters and contributes to making us a great company.
When you want to travel...
All permanent New Zealand Post staff have access to our corporate rates in air travel, car hire and accommodation. Our Sevenaway Holiday Homes Network also offers quality holiday accommodation at great locations throughout New Zealand to more than 12,500 New Zealanders and their families which you can access if you join the Post Office Welfare Trust.

An AFS opportunity for your child...

The New Zealand Post/AFS Scholarships offer them the opportunity to live and study overseas for an academic year, experiencing another culture, learning another language, living with a host family and attending school overseas.
