Our People

We are a people business and strive to make New Zealand Post a great place to work, and a great organisation to work with.

We recognise and respect the contribution of our people and as a team work to maintain the highest standards in all our business dealings – operating in good faith, ethically and responsibly, to build trusting, collaborative and long-term relationships.

Employment conditions

We are an employer member of the Equal Employment Opportunity Trust, and are committed to fostering an inclusive, diverse and versatile workplace.

We believe our employees should be paid fairly for their contribution to our business and offer the majority of employees the opportunity to financially share in the success of the company based on their contribution to the business. We keep track of the employment markets and make sure that what we pay is in line with other companies.

We support collective bargaining and work closely with our unions to make sure we take a balanced approach to changes in our business.

Safety and Wellbeing

The safety and wellbeing of our people is paramount.  Our Safety and Wellbeing Statement of Commitment spells out our commitment to achieving excellence in our safety and wellbeing performance along with our intentions and priorities in this area.

To help us target our injury prevention initiatives, we measure and report on 'Lost Time Injury Frequency Rate', an internationally recognised safety measure.

The New Zealand Post Board and the Executive Team both have subcommittees that focus on our safety improvement. We're part of the ACC Partnership Programme and audited on a regular basis to make sure we provide our people with a safe place to work, and educate and empower them to make themselves safer.

We support our people in dealing with issues at work and personal problems by providing fully funded, confidential access to an Employee Assistance Programme.

Employee Engagement

We understand there is an important link between how engaged our people are and how productive, safe and successful they are in their work.

Each year we undertake a survey using the Gallup methodology to measure how much employees feel they're getting from their workplace and how much they're prepared to give in return – so that as teams they can work together to improve this.

We've targeted to reach a Group engagement score that will put us in the top 25% of companies worldwide by 2009.
