Items sent within New Zealand that can't be delivered will be returned to sender if there is a sender's address. If there is no sender’s address then it will be sent to New Zealand Post’s Returned Letters Office and will be dealt with in accordance with the Postal Services Act 1998.
Letters (except postcards), parcels under 2kg and registered items from overseas that we can't deliver will be returned to the country they were sent from. Unless instructed otherwise, parcels over 2kg and any courier items will be returned to the sender at their expense. This may exceed the cost of the outward postage.
Parcels (insured or over 2kg) from overseas that we can't deliver will be dealt with in accordance with the instructions on the customs declaration or consignment note.
Printed papers will only be returned to the country they were sent from if specifically requested by the sender. This must be marked on the item in the language of the destination country.
