Applying for the HANZ 18+ card

You can submit your application for the HANZ 18+ card at New Zealand Post. Bring your application, passport photo, $20 fee and supporting materials to your local PostShop or selected New Zealand Post retail outlets nationwide, and we can forward them to the Hospitality Association of New Zealand on your behalf.

Who can apply?

An individual who is 18 and over and needs the HANZ 18+ card for his/her age verification.

How do I apply?

  • Complete the 18+ Evidence of Age application form. You can obtain this from your local PostShop or from the HANZ web site www.hanz.org.nz.
  • Follow the instructions on the form.
  • Supply a passport photo with the date of application and full name of the applicant on the back. If you do not have another form of photo ID, an identifier must sign the back of the passport photo.
  • Provide one form of proof of address.
  • Provide one form of primary identification (with or without photo).
  • Bring everything to your PostShop or selected New Zealand Post outlets for processing and ID verification.
  • Pay the $20 application fee.
  • Once verification is complete, your application and photocopies will be placed into a specially-addressed envelope and sent on to HANZ.

What forms of ID can I use?

  • Proof of address:
    • Account statement from bank, building society, credit union or credit card issuer (issued in the 12 months preceding the date of the application).
    • Telephone, gas or electricity account statement (issued in the six months preceding the date of the application).
    • Letter from an employer or educational institute (dated not more than 12 months preceding the application and includes your name and address).
  • Primary Identification with photo:
    • New Zealand Passport.
    • Overseas Passport.
    • New Zealand Driver License (issued under the Land Transport Act 1998).
    • New Zealand Certificate of Identity (issued under the Passports Act 1992).
    • New Zealand Refugee Travel Document (issued by or on behalf of the New Zealand Government, this document must be current or have expired in the two years prior to the application).
  • Primary Identification without photo:
    • Full Birth Certificate issued in New Zealand, the Cook Islands, Niue or Tokelau. 
    • A Birth Certificate issued overseas, providing that it contains information equivalent to that contained in a full New Zealand Birth Certificate.
    • New Zealand Citizen Certificate.
    • New Zealand Residence Permit.
    • New Zealand Certificate of Identity (issued under the Immigration Act 1987) that is current or has expired in the two years prior to the application.

What does ID verification mean?

ID verification means that you must present evidence that you are the person applying for the HANZ 18+ card. Once your identity is verified, your application is forwarded to HANZ for action. No personal information is collected or retained by New Zealand Post.
