Applying for an IRD number
It's easy, hassle free and convenient to sort out your application for an IRD number at New Zealand Post. You can submit your application and supporting materials at your local PostShop and selected New Zealand Post retail outlets nationwide and we can forward them on your behalf to Inland Revenue.

- Follow the instructions on the IR595 form.
- Collect two forms of identification, one from Category A and one from Category B.
- Photocopy each form of identification.
- Bring everything to your PostShop for processing and ID verification.
- Once verification is complete, your application and photocopies will be placed into a specially-addressed envelope and sent on to Inland Revenue.

What does ID verification mean?
ID verification means that you must present evidence that you are the person applying for the IRD number or that you have a right to apply for an IRD number on behalf of a child under 16 years old. Once your identity is verified, your application is forwarded to Inland Revenue for action. No personal information is collected or retained by New Zealand Post.
