Holding your mail
If you're planning to be away from home, we can hold your mail for you until you return. Our Hold service means you don't have to rely on friends or family to collect your mail for you.
All mail coming to your address will be looked after for you until you return. We can hold your mail for as little as one day or up to 12 weeks at a time. That includes all letter mail, parcel items up to 3kg as well as Rural Delivery.
The process is simple. Just let us know at least three working days before you need your mail put on hold.
Once your Hold service expires, your mail will be redelivered to you as normal unless you ask us to extend your Hold service request.
Please note that all mail will be held for this address.
Arranging this online - getting started
- There are two things you'll need to have handy to start:
- Your New Zealand Driver's Licence, so we can authenticate your details.
- A credit card to pay for your Hold service request.
- Please make sure you have read and understood our Hold service Terms and conditions.
- Use the "Hold my mail" button below to get started.

It costs surprisingly little to put your mail on hold.

One week refers to a seven day period.
You can extend, reduce or cancel your Hold request:
- If you decide to return home early, you can reduce your Hold service request.
- If you're planning to be away longer, we can extend your Hold service request.
- You can also cancel your Hold service request at any time.
We'll need three working days notice to action any of these requests.
Prefer to go to your local PostShop to put your mail on Hold?
You can pick up an application form at your local PostShop. Please allow three working days for us to process your request. Please also remember to take a form of identification with you such as your New Zealand drivers licence, HANZ 18+ card or Community Services Card.
If you are a Senior Citizen, you will need to provide proof of identification such as your Super card or a driver's licence in order to qualify for the free service.

We are unable to hold the following items:
- ParcelPostTM Tracked, CourierPost items and parcel items over 3kg.
- Mail delivered by other postal operators, newspapers and circulars.
