The real. simple. guide to what's changed at New Zealand Post
On 28 March 2008, New Zealand Post introduced a new, more logical pricing in proportion system for all standard domestic mail. This means letters and parcels sent within New Zealand are now priced in direct proportion to their size and weight. Previously parcels have been priced mainly on weight.
You can read more about it by downloading the Sending your letters and parcels within New Zealand (.pdf - 617kb) for personal customers brochure.
Note: The postage price for a Standard Post Medium letter remains unchanged at $0.50.
IMPORTANT UPDATE:
New, larger dimensions for Extra Large and Oversize standard letter sizes. More...
What hasn't changed?
- The postage price for most of the standard domestic letters that go through our network remains unchanged at $0.50 because most of these letters are of a smaller size; and
- Bulk mail products (VolumePost, GoFlexible and PrintPost) and international products are not changing.
What has changed?
From 28 March 2008:
- there is a new, more logical pricing in proportion system for standard domestic letters and parcels called pricing in proportion;
- there is an improved ParcelPost™ service that offers economic ways to send parcels anywhere in New Zealand; and
- we removed the PacketPost™ service from the New Zealand Post product range as it has been replaced with the improved ParcelPost™ service.
Why the change?
Previously some larger sized items of mail have been the same price to send as smaller items and this has not reflected the cost of handling them. As most of the mail that passes through our network is of a smaller size, it is fair that the postage price is in proportion to the size and weight of the item.
